E N G (Eng's Not a Group!) This is the mudd.eng FAQ. Q1: What is this group, and what is it for? A1: Mudd.eng is not a group, and hence is not for discussions. More precisely, it is for non-discussions. Even more strictly than just being for non-discussions, discussions are specifically prohibited. Discussions are for groups which exist. Since Eng's Not a Group, discussions are forbidden. Anyone caught making a post to this group which contains a discussion will be forced to stop doing so immediately and, of course, without discussion. There will be no discussion of this FAQ on this group. Note that this is not an equivalent group to alt.nonsequitur since a follow-up post may be relevant to a previous post, it just may not discuss it, or anything else for that matter. Q2: But I didn't even realize I was subscribed to this group! A2: That's not our fault. Q3: What sort of things can I expect to see on this group? A3: Non-discussions. Recursive acronyms. Text generated with putchar(rand()), especially if it resembles Shakespeare. Anything that you wouldn't see on any other mudd group (since this isn't a group). For that matter, anything you wouldn't see on any group. Maybe even a few grads who made a wrong turn looking for mudd.flame. Q4: Why was this group created? A4: Rumour has it that this group was created to discuss things whose names begin with "eng". Things like english, engagements, and possibly even engineering. Therefore any references to Shakespeare (see Q3), seals in ponds (see Q6), and telephone poles (see Q5) are greatly encouraged. Q5: Why is this only a mudd group instead of nationally distributed? A5: Who says it is only locally distributed? After all, mistakes like that have been known to happen. Of course, you get telephone poled for doing something like that, but it can still happen. Q6: What do seals in ponds have to do with anything relevant to this group? A6: Nothing, but a cross reference was needed for question 4, so we thought we would ask anyway. Q7: Where can I get a list of words that begin with "eng"? A7: Here's one: Engelmann_spruce English Englishman Englishness Englishwoman engage engaged engagement engaging engagingly engarland engender engendered engendering engild engine engined enginery engining engird engirdle engjneer engjneerjng englacial engorge engorgement engraft engraftment engrailed engrain engram engramme engrave engraved engraver engraving engross engrosser engrossing engrossingly engrossment engulf engulfment \__ Pojundery, -------------------------------------------------- | Cliff McCarthy | cmccarth@atlantis.hmc.edu | HMC Math & Unicycling /T\ | A peaceful place, or so it looks from space. \_/
